Are You Doing All You Can?

This site is about the Hustle. The Fearless Hustle at that.

Everyone thinks they are working hard. Everyone thinks they are doing all they can to get where they want to be. But it is time to cut the bullshit and truly ask yourself if you really are doing all you can to move yourself forward in life.

In order to find out if you are doing all you can to achieve your goal, you first have to decide what that goal is. And this is where most plan to fail is failing to plan. You can’t run through life without an end goal in site. That is like asking someone directions and they point and say “that way”. Sure – you will get there eventually, but the lack of specific directions will cause you to miss turns, go wrong ways and take longer to get where you want to be than normal. Specific directions gets you there more efficiently. I can (and have) write pages and pages on this, but that isn’t what we are talking about today…

Let’s say that you have a goal (most of you don’t, it is just the way it is), but let’s say that for some reason, you actually are one of those people who knows exactly what they want. Are you doing all you can towards it?

MjAxMy03N2YwMWJjNWVmNzdiMWQz_527ec7b10ae6dPosting on facebook about your workout won’t get you fit. Reading an article on how to invest won’t increase your bank account. Complaining about your job won’t move your up the ladder.

Sure, you may be working hard and sure, you may even be making progress in what you are doing. But are you doing ALL YOU CAN toward your goals?

The time it takes to post a pic of your selfie at the gym, you could have done one more rep. The time to read the article on investing, you could have put money into your brokerage account. The time to complain to someone could have been used to make one more call, or send one more email.

DO ALL YOU CAN

I listen to a lot of motivational tapes, and Eric Thomas has a line that really puts into perspectve doing all you can.

1358222377_zps4aa40c79“When you want to breathe as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful”.

The story goes that this guy wants to be successful, so he sees this guru. And he takes him into the ocean, pushes his head underwater and the guy fights to breathe (watch the video here).

Fighting to breathe means doing EVERY SINGLE THING that you can to take that next breathe. The next thing you do in life doesn’t matter outside of breathing. Breathing is the only thing that you need to do in that given moment.

That is the mentatlity you need to hold for success.

Working 9-5 isn’t going to get you there.

Working a few hours in the morning on Saturday isn’t going to get you there.

Posting on social media isn’t going to get you there.

Complaining about won’t get you there.

A little here, a little there isn’t going to get you there.

Your next breathe. Your next move. Every single ounce of your energy needs to go into what you are doing.

You are either all in, or not in at all

1545583_690218804343560_128623168_nNow look – let’s be serious when we talk about this. If life was as easy as dedicating yourself to something everyone would do what they love and we would not have anyone unhappy looking for answers in the bottom of the bottle. But that just isn’t the case. We have to working some job to make some money to pay some mortgage so some family can put some food on some table for some time. That is some life. I get that. I live that every single day. I have a family where my income is the only income. I have to work, travel and make sure that at the end of the month, my family has a roof over their head, food on the table, and every thing we need to survive. It’s a grind.

But I am all in on that too. When I look at my 9-5 life, when I look at my family life, even when I look at my leisure time, I am all in. I do all I can to get it better, to get what I want, to have the life I am dreaming of.

It doesn’t matter if you are doing something extra on the side, trying to lose weight and get in shape, trying to climb up the corporate ladder, or just living your daily life, You need to do ALL YOU CAN.

This is life people. Most people I know don’t do all they can. They think they are. Their facebook looks like they are. The stories they tell me make it appear like they are, but they are comfortable in their current position. That is not all in. That is not doing all you can. That is sliding by.

And yes, sliding by is OK. Sliding by is easy. Sliding by won’t make you hurt. But sliding by is living a mediocre life. Sliding by is living a “regular” life.

Life is too short to be regular.

No matter what you do, do all you can. Constantly ask yourself what else could you do, what is your next step, what is the next action you need to take, THEN GO DO THAT.

“When you want to success as bad as you want to breathe, that is when you will be successful”.

To Your Success,

Z
