Focus on Focus

It is very easy to get distracted in today’s world. Tweets, Instagram post, facebook blogs, and more media that we care to have gets thrown at us on a daily basis.

And it is very easy to get stuck down a rabbit hole with these posts. You see something that mild interested you – a few minutes later you are watching some kid bite his brothers finger.

Each loss of focus on one of these rabbit holes takes you out of your own mind, your own head, your own goals, and your own focus.

Staying in your own moment is how you get ahead – by focusing all your energy, focus and attention on getting yourself ahead in the world. When your attention dwindles and goes someplace else – that is when you start dropping energy, focus, and ultimately – vibrations to get to where you want to go.

And maybe you are OK with that. Maybe you don’t have goals, or dreams, or a perfect life that you want to live. That is fine – to each their own.

Or maybe you are frustrated with your current state – wondering why you work so hard, drive your life forward, and can’t really show much for it. You are tired of being overweight. You are tired of not having enough wealth. You are tired of the same old shit in your life day in and day out.

If you are the latter – I urge you to focus on yourself. Focus on your own focus.

Focus on Focus

focus on focusLife is such a wondrous adventure – if you treat it in the right way. Focusing with pig-headed discipline on your own life – your own goals – your own way of living is a powerful way to get your mind on the path to where you want to go. But as soon as we get sucked up into OPP (Other People’s Problems), we get distracted where we want to go. And every second distracted is a second off of your own life.

Yes – we should care about our fellow humans – that isn’t what I am saying here. If someone needs help, or someone to talk to, or someone to listen – be there. 100% of the time. The issue is when you scroll through instagram – how many people do you give your attention to that really shouldn’t have it?

  • Talking politics
  • Complaining about life
  • Yet another picture of a baby just sitting there
  • Sharing another passive aggressive article about the world in its current state

None of these serve you. None of these take YOU closer to where YOU want to go. They actually take you further from it. They send you into a state of negativity, where you focus on things that push you farther and farther away from your own true self. And when we talk about getting your vibrations as high as possible – that is living the life of your own true self – not the bull that goes on in the media (social or otherwise).

I know that is hard to do. We all are guilty of it. We all just need that little hit – that snip of something to cure our itch for media. That little glimpse of what others are going through to validate our own life through someone else. That’s all we want.

Or do we?

Your Life Vision

One of my main principles is know what you want – go get what you want. As simple as it sounds, that truly is the basis for living the best life.

Know what you want – go get what you want.

Knowing what you want is what gets people. With focusing so much on what others are doing with their life, and trying to find validation for our own life through them, we get sucked down into the spiral of thinking what we want is what they have.

And that very well could be true. If you see something that someone else has and you say to yourself:

“that is nice – I’d like to have that someday”

Guess what – you can! But if you say to yourself:

“That is nice – how come he can afford that and I can’t? I make more money than him. Look at him putting his own ego ahead of his family and spending money on that thing instead of taking his family on a vacation or something. I want to do that – why can’t I do that? What am I doing wrong that he is doing right? I am better than him”.

This is the rabbit hole we need to get out of. And knowing your own life vision can help you do that.

Knowing what you want is actually a difficult task. It is what YOU want. How YOU want to live. How YOU want to be. Not because of the vision of someone else – but the vision of YOU. And that is why I have most people who are struggling with their life write a life vision. What is the highest version of yourself? In a perfect world – where politics, socioeconomic status, money, health, nothing really matters or is restrictive – who are you? What are you doing? How are you living?

Once you get this down – you can start on the path of living the best life. This puts your own personal vibrations – your own energy – on your own focus of your own life to life YOUR life to the best.

And that is what we are after aren’t we? To live a full life? I think so…

So how do we focus on ourselves? How do we start focusing on our own life vision and no one else? I am glad you asked.

5 Ways To Focus on Focus

  1. If you haven’t already, write your life vision. Write down your highest version of yourself as you sit today. In a world where there is no friction, who are you? What are you doing? How are you living?
  2. Restrict social media. I think too many people say to stop social media all together, but that is like telling an alcoholic just to stop drinking all together. When you are so condition to do something and you try to quit cold turkey – isn’t good. So restrict it. Limit it. Don’t check it first thing in the morning. Make a habit to checking only AFTER a certain time in the morning. And no checking after 8p (that is when the complainers come out anyways). And create a “let it be” attitude. When you do check it – if you find yourself getting worked up over a post, tell yourself “Let it be. That doesn’t help me” and move on.
  3. Meditate. My answer to everything is to meditate. Meditation slows your mind, and lets you be in control of your thoughts. Read your life vision, and meditate for 10 – 20 minutes. Let your mind marinate on the idea of living your best vision.
  4. Slow down. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your perfect life won’t be here overnight. Part of the practice is the journey. Stop rushing through life just to get to the end (you die anyways). Slow down, enjoy moments in your life.
  5. Surrender. Know this is working. Know that no matter what others are doing, it is for them. You are focused on your life and you are letting whatever higher power you believe in move you through life towards your best left. Let people do other people. You do you – and you do you the best you you can do.

Once you get the hang of focusing on yourself, your own dreams, your own life, it becomes liberating. You truly stop caring what the worlds think, and that is an empowering feeling to know you are in control of your own life, your own destiny, and you can have anything and everything that you want in life. But you have to focus on focus first.
